What a Life Path Number is
The Life Path Number is the best-known number in Western numerology. You add up the digits of a birth date until a single digit is left, and that digit is read as a sketch of someone’s temperament, natural talents and the habits that tend to trip them up.
Like astrology, it’s a long-standing cultural tradition and a bit of fun, not a scientific measurement. It works best as a way to think about yourself and to start a conversation with friends.
How this calculator does the math
We use the Pythagorean reduction method. The year, month and day are each reduced to a single digit first, then the three results are added and reduced once more. Take May 15, 1990: 1990 → 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1; May is 5; the 15th → 1+5 = 6; 1+5+6 = 12 → 1+2 = 3. That birthday is a Life Path 3.
Another common method adds all eight digits at once. Most birthdays land on the same number either way; a few differ in whether a master number survives. We keep 11, 22 and 33 at every step, which is why the result shows the year, month and day separately.
Master numbers 11, 22 and 33
If 11, 22 or 33 comes up while reducing, the math stops there. These are the master numbers. An 11 still carries the base of a 2, a 22 the base of a 4, and a 33 the base of a 6: the gifts are louder, and so is the pressure that comes with them.

FAQ
Does my birth time or place matter?
No. The Life Path Number only uses the date: year, month and day. Time and place matter for an astrological birth chart, not for numerology.
Another calculator gave me a different number. Which one is right?
Usually the method is different. Some add all eight digits at once and drop master numbers; others reduce the year, month and day separately. Both are in use. We reduce in three parts and keep 11, 22 and 33 throughout, and the steps are shown under your result so you can compare.
Is a master number better?
Not better or worse. A master number means one trait runs especially strong, and so does the strain that comes with it. Every number has its own strengths and lessons.
Do you store my birthday?
No. The calculation happens in your browser, your birthday isn’t sent to our servers and isn’t added to the address bar. Sharing only shares the profile page for your number.
Is numerology accurate?
It’s a cultural tradition, not a scientific test. Treat it as a vocabulary for describing yourself, keep what resonates, and don’t let it make big life decisions for you.
